AUDITION NOTICE
Hale Centre Theatre is pleased to announce auditions for their upcoming production of ARSENIC & OLD LACE by Joseph Kesselring. Auditions will be by video submission only and will be done via the following link HERE . Please have your video ready as a YouTube link (no shorts) BEFORE you sign up. All video submissions will be due by 10pm, Friday, July 24, 2026. Videos submitted after 10pm will not be considered.
Drama critic Mortimer Brewster’s engagement announcement is upended when he discovers a corpse in his elderly aunts’ window seat. Mortimer rushes to tell Abby and Martha before they stumble upon the body themselves, only to learn that the two old women aren’t just aware of the dead man in their parlor, they killed him!
ARSENIC & OLD LACE will be directed by Stephanie Breinholt and will run on our Jewel Box Stage from January 11, 2027 through April 10, 2027.
All roles are open and will be double cast. We are looking for a diverse group of men & women to play character roles. All actors must be aged 20’s and older. Please see the character descriptions HERE for more details. For this production we will not be able to offer any AEA contracts. Hale Centre Theatre does not provide housing or transportation.
A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR: These characters should be grounded and real. They do not know they are in a comedy, nor are they trying to be funny. They are just real and quirky trying to make the world a better place (which will make them even more funny!)
FOR YOUR VIDEO: The director has asked for you to prepare a 1 minute comedic monologue of your choice OR you choose ONE of the monologues HERE . Please prepare a monologue that best demonstrates your abilities.
Call backs will be held in person on Saturday, August 8, 2026 and will be by invitation only. There will be additional reading at the call backs. All cast members will be paid and pay rates, depending on the role, range from $95 to $150 per performance. Weekday matinees are paid at an additional $20 per performance. There is also pay for rehearsals. Pay rates are posted on the character descriptions, which can be viewed HERE .
