Hale Centre Theatre proudly announces

Auditions for Hale Centre Theatre's Broadway Youth Performance Choirs "Stars" & "OnStage", will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 beginning at 9am. Kelly DeHaan will be the director for the choirs with Tanner DeHaan as the accompanist. There will be annual fees for each choir. More information on each choir and instructions for auditions are listed below.

“STARS” is a children's singing program catered to kids ages 8-16 who love performing on stage. Students will be taught as a group in a choral setting. Students will have an opportunity to work with professional directors to produce healthy and powerful singing tone, create engaging and honest stage presence, and will be taught to read music on an advanced level.

Students will be expected to attend a weekly rehearsal that will last 1.5 hours. Rehearsals will begin in September 2019 and the season will run through May of 2020. Rehearsals will go from 4:00 - 5:30 pm on Tuesday afternoons and will be held at Hale Centre Theatre.

Various actors, directors, and even producers, will take time to work with the students and give insights into what is expected from those who seek on stage performance. Students will be the first to know about HCT auditions requiring child actors and will be coached and guided toward a positive audition experience.

Students will also be taught age-appropriate Broadway style literature as a group and will perform for their friends and families at the beautiful Hale Centre Theatre in Sandy. Students will be trained how to sing with proper breath control, posture, vocal alignment, and will receive individual assessments of their singing.

Concerts will be held for friends and families twice annually in the Spring and Fall. They will be engaging and full of fun. Individuals will audition for the opportunity to be featured in these concerts. Performances will be professionally staged, lit, and engineered for sound quality. These performances will provide a chance for the students to show their skills and entertain an audience.

Students will be charged an annual fee of $585.00. Students are expected to make a year long commitment to their enrollment in “STARS”. HCT offers a 10% discount when paying in full, $526.50 or three payments of $195.00 ea.; a 10% discount for each additional child from same family. There will be limited scholarship opportunities available for under served communities.

Candidates will need to prepare 16-32 measures of a Broadway style song. The song must be memorized and presented with energy and polish. Students will be graded on: Intonation, Tone, Volume, Clarity/Diction, Involvement/Presence, and on overall stage presence. Not all students who audition will be accepted into the “STARS” Choir. Students who are not accepted will be put on an alternate list for enrollment in the event of a position becoming available. Students will be required to re-audition each summer for the following season.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 beginning at 9:00 am. There is no fee to audition. An accompanist will be provided. No backing tracks or acapella singing will be allowed. Students must bring a copy of their music for the accompanist with starting and stopping points clearly marked. Students will need to bring a headshot or current photo to the audition.

“OnStage” at HCT will be a small performing ensemble made up of students who are enrolled in the STARS choir.  OnStage will be made up of advanced singers who are performance ready.  Although it is expected that older students will be the primary candidates for this ensemble, there will be no age restrictions. Candidates will be evaluated at the STARS auditions.  Students wishing to participate in the OnStage program should be truly exceptional. Students will be required to re-audition each summer for the following season.

Students will attend weekly STARS rehearsals on Tuesdays and will also have their own weekly rehearsal on Thursdays at 4:00.

“OnStage” will function as an outreach performance ensemble and will perform in the community representing HCT at civic events, corporate galas, award banquets, etc. The performance schedule will not be rigorous, but enrollment will require a considerable commitment from students and their parents/guardians.  Students can expect between 8-12 community events annually.  Students will also have an opportunity to do holiday performances as pre-show entertainment in the HCT lobby. Attendance at performances is required.

Students will purchase and wear a moderately priced performing uniform (to be determined).  It is expected that the uniform will be altered at the student's expense as the student grows.

Students will be charged an annual fee or $795* (10% discount when paying in full, $715.50 or three payments of $265.00 ea.); a 10% discount is granted for each additional child from the same family. There will be limited scholarship opportunites available for under served communities.

*The $795 includes fees for both Stars & OnStage
